Getting visa

Rwanda visa

From 1 Jan 2018, Citizens of all countries are allowed to get visa upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and all land borders without prior application.

Citizens of countries members to the following international organizations: African Union, Commonwealth and La Francophonie get visa upon arrival and are waived visa fees for a visit of 30 days (https://migration.gov.rw/visa/visitors-visa).

For citizens of others countries, to avoid rush at the airport we generally suggest also the option to submit application online (https://www.migration.gov.rw/our-services/visa/) or at the Rwanda Diplomatic Missions of the country of residence before departure. We also send you a tourist invitation letter related to your travel itinerary. Guests are responsible to check and verify all visa requirements before arriving. Your passport needs to have at least 6 months validity on the date you are entering Rwanda. Check this as soon as you book your trip.

East African Tourist Visa

This is a Joint Tourist Visa and it allows the traveler to travel to Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda ONLY. It can be used multiple times for tourism purposes. The visa prohibits employment and is issued only for tourism purposes. The visa is valid for 90 days and is not renewable upon expiry or upon exit from the block (Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda). Please refrain from bringing plastic bags to Rwanda. Banned by law since 2008, any plastic bags in your luggage will be confiscated at the airport or at another point of entry.

As a country, we strive to protect, safeguard and promote the environment – a matter which is written into our constitution and carefully observed by our citizens, who all participate in a community service called Umuganda on the last Saturday of every month.

We respectfully request that all visitors help us keep Rwanda the cleanest country in Africa, and dispose of all litter responsibly.
